‘Arjun Suravaram’ was supposed to come out a year ago. The much delayed film finally hit the screens.

Let’s look at the pros and cons.

Story:

Arjun Lenin Suravaram (Nikhil Siddharth) works at the news channel TV99. BBC gives him a job as an investigative journalist, but the station discovers that his diplomas are fake and he is arrested.

Shocked, Arjun learns that a certificate counterfeiting is active in the Telugu states. He decides to expose them with the help of a cop, a lawyer friend and his fellow reporter. His girlfriend Kavya (Lavanya Tripathi) also helps him in this mission.

Will he succeed?

Performances by artists:

Nikhil Siddharth did a decent job as a reporter. He is sincere in his effort. Vennela Kishore gets a solid role as a lawyer.

Lavanya Tripathi as his girlfriend is just okay. Nagineedu as Nikhil’s father, Posani as the agent and Tarun Arora as the main villain have done justice to their roles.

Sathya as a friend of Nikhil and Vidhyu are there for a laugh.

Technical excellence:

The film has visual beauty and appropriate technical values. The cinematography is a plus. Editing is spicy in some places and slow in others.

Analysis

A remake of a Tamil film, ‘Arjun Suravaram’, starts off slow. A dull beginning with the introduction of the characterization of the hero, his love story with heroine Lavanya Tripathi and some comic sequences shake the mood.

Fortunately, the movie gets interesting when the hero is arrested for producing a fake certificate. He is innocent and he is determined to make effective use of his investigative skills to find the mastermind behind this scam. Then the game starts, just like we’ve seen in movies like ‘Dhruva’.

The drama is effective in the beginning. How this racket works and the mechanism is shown in detail and it has made a captivating watch. Unfortunately the drama gets repetitive after the intermission. The thrilling narration paves the way for predictable clichés.

The schoolhouse collapse episode and the Dubai episode spark interest, but if we know the hero’s mission and who the villain is, the story should be compelling.

The director has taken a safe route full of formulaic scenes in the second half, which has made all previous captivating scenes lose their appeal. This has given me a sense of déjà vu.

Better handling of the last servings would have made a huge difference. The good production design, Nikhil’s sincere efforts have made the film watchable.

Despite a compelling storyline and a decent first half, ‘Arjun Suravaram’ turns out to be an unexciting thriller due to its poor execution.

On paper, it’s certainly an exciting idea, but the director’s imagination couldn’t let it go beyond mediocre.

Bottom line: Unable to join!
