Overview

Mumbai Saga is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language action crime film directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by T-Series. It features an ensemble cast of John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, Kajal Aggarwal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte and Gulshan Grover. Set in the ’80s and ’90s, Mumbai Saga shows changing phases of Bombay by closing mills to make malls and high-rise buildings. The film was released theatrically on 19 March 2021.

The film is based on the lives of two gangsters, Amartya Rao (John Abraham) and Vijay Salaskar (Emraan Hashmi). Rao is a small-time gangster who rises to power in the Mumbai underworld, while Salaskar is a police officer who is determined to bring him down. The film also explores the changing face of Mumbai during this period, as the city undergoes rapid development.

Storyline

The story follows Amartya Rao (John Abraham), a young man who comes from a humble background. He works as a vegetable vendor with his father. One day, Amartya’s brother Arjun is beaten up by goons working for gangster Amartya Gaitonde (Emraan Hashmi). Amartya is enraged and decides to take revenge. He joins the underworld and soon becomes a powerful don.

Amartya’s rise to power is met with opposition from other gangsters, including Gaitonde. He also faces the wrath of the police, led by encounter specialist Vijay Sawarkar (Rohit Roy). Amartya must use all his skills and cunning to survive in the world of crime.

Mumbai Saga is a gritty and realistic depiction of the Mumbai underworld in the ’80s and ’90s. The film is full of action, violence, and suspense. It is also a cautionary tale about the dangers of power and ambition.
